Maybe I'll go 3 stars here, just because it was a "fun" read. Others have pointed out the lack of character development, and the superhero aspect to the protagonists. CAUTION: SPOILERS MIGHT FOLLOW!!My notable gripe is that it seems the author wrote this from his den in England, and used locations that he was completely unfamiliar with. A lot goes on around the town of Kanab. Well I've been there. There certainly aren't a lot of "back streets, many houses, and lots of commercial establishments". There's one road through town, with 2 right angle turns in it! No fancy retail outlets where one could gather electronics. And certainly no Customs Office!
Then we move to Vegas, where the heroes arrive by road just a few minutes after the bad guys flew in. It's 200 miles, folks!
I like adventure stories that jump around the world. But you have to make sure your locales are realistic.
Perhaps the author is churning these out too fast to check out his locations.

Usually a minor character is not a main character for a reason and that's the case for me here. Alicia Myles is a great one dimensional minor character but not much to flesh out as a main character. The comp to Kristen Bell really confused me. My Alicia Myles was more like Joan Jett on steroids, still very one dimensional. That said, I liked Crouch, Healey, Russo and Caitlyn a lot, but Myles needs improvement. Looking forward to this team in Drake 's new adventure and work on Alicia's humanizing in Book 2.
There is a derivative plot and hollow characters. Breakneck pacing is the only real redeeming quality of this thriller. I have the first Matt Drake book already, so I will read the writer again, but no more from this series. Who knows? This may be your cup of tea. Give it a shot. Just remember to temper expectations.
Good action novel, although I thought some of the fights were there to fill pages. It does keep moving.
Point about Alicia - well written except she seems to tries to "out-male" the males in the story. I like women action heroes. They are fun to read about and watch. They are be as weapons proficient, combat proficient, and intelligent as any male, if not more. However Alicia seems to make it a point to denigrate any male she comes in contact with. With her attitude, I'm surprised she doesn't have to fight every male she get introduced to.
Not to long ago l decided to read the Drake series on recommendations from . I began and before I realized it I was drawn into the plots and characters. The characters became endeared to me. I began to wonder about each one. Then David read his favourite readers mine and started to allow us to go on missions with the crew,laugh and even grieve with them. I can assuredly say I am hooked on all David's books. His writing is perfect. He appeals to anyone of any interest. There is something for everyone. I recommend that anyone with a little spare time to download it. You will begin a journey like none you've taken and will not regret. 🙌
Another quick and fun read from David Leadbeater. This book is about one of the main characters (Alicia Myles) from the Matt Drake series who goes off on her own (I guess to find her own way). She is still kick @ss in this book but there isn't quite as much mayhem as in the Matt Drake series but there is still plenty of action! If you liked the Matt Drake series you should probably read this book (but only if you are up to date on the MD series). I don't like to give out too many details because I don't want to give anything away, so hopefully my little description will give you a enough of an insight into the book to make you want to give it a shot -).

What was supposed to be a treasure hunt book turned out to be an Arnold Schwarzenegger Commando movie. The female lead was far from believable and the silly banter between teammates got tiresome. The book seemed to progress in a fairly predicable fashion, but our group of heroes never seemed to be seriously threatened even when facing superior numbers. In the end, a greater focus on the actual hunt with more research done would have made the read more intriguing, but not much more. The book was too forced and everyone just seemed to end up exactly where they were supposed to regardless of difficulty.
I like the Leadbeater novels. I didn't think I would like the Alicia Myles books. And I was not too taken with the "Aztec" gold scenario. Why? Because running around in Mexico looking for some mythical treasure with drug thugs and various corrupt government officials didn't seem to be much fun. BUT Leadbeater has taken this in a better direction. And he has balanced finding the treasure with shoot outs so that one does not over power the other, especially the shoot outs.
I could not put this book down. And the "route" to the treasure was a great trip. I felt like I was on the journey.
The treasure hunters are backed up by archaeologists, museums, etc., so this is not a "looting" expedition, it is an expedition to retrieve treasure for everyone, not to be melted down and turned into money. Alicia has developed into a three dimensional character and I am really liking the people she has "partnered" with.
Leadbeater's writing is crisp, clear and illustrative. I am there, I see it, I hear it and I can't wait to get back to it.
